Can a European Break our PGA Tour drought at TPC Sawgrass?

Since the start of the wrap-around 2013/14 PGA Tour there has not been a single European winner. J.B. Holmes at Quail Hollow last week became the 20th U.S. winner of the season, with 4 Australians (no Adam Scott!) and a South Korean claiming the other titles that have been handed out so far. In Ryder Cup year that has to be put down as a pretty significant trend.
So what are the chances of that streak ending this week at the TPC Sawgrass hosted THE PLAYERS Championship? Well in my view, the chances are actually quite good. Sergio Garcia adores the Stadium Course and has been playing exceptionally well across both Tours in 2014. Justin Rose’s confidence seems to be gathering momentum as he gets over his shoulder injury. Luke Donald is in his Florida element, Henrik Stenson thrives at TPC Sawgrass plus Jonas Blixt, Jamie Donaldson, Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, Frankie Molinari, Martin Kaymer and Ian Poulter have all been showing improvements in their results over recent weeks.
On the American side expect Zach Johnson, Jim Furyk, Harris English and Matt Every to go well this week on a course that is sure to suit. Phil Mickelson has a new putter to play with this week and Chesson Hadley, Russell Henley and Ryan Palmer could all surprise at long prices. Last but certainly not least Australian technical course expert John Senden could also re-appear in the high reaches of the leaderboard this week.
