Rose has the profile for Westin Innisbrook
JUSTIN ROSE is the highest world ranked player in the field for the Valspar Championship this week on the US PGA Tour. Rose has made a slow start to the season and slipped to number seven in the rankings from a career high of four at the start of the year.
This week’s event suffers from its place in the schedule a week after a world golf championship event at the start of the build up to the US Masters. However, it has attracted two current major champions and five players in total from the top 20 in the current world rankings.
Rose won the US Open last June and Jason Dufner is the current PGA champion.
Jordan Speith, Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker are the other top 20 players in the field. Kuchar has a good record in Florida and looks well suited to the Westin Innisbrook host course in Miami that has staged this event since its first year in 2000.
The course puts a premium on accuracy over distance and driving in the fairway and finding the greens in the correct number of shots will be key skills. This brings Rose into the mix and he combines decent course and current form.
Luke Donald is playing decent golf again but not at the level that saw him become the best player in the world. He is now moving in the right direction in the rankings but might not even be the leading Englishman this week if Rose can recapture the form that saw him win his first major last year.
