Football: Looking For Some Goals Galore This Weekend

Barnsley have had a difficult start to the season, picking up just one point from their first four matches.
Keeping the goals out has been their problem after conceding 12 goals in their 4 league games and in midweek they were thumped 5-1 at home to Premier League side Southampton in the Capital One Cup. Confidence is low and this weekend sees them face Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield Town, who last time out won 5-1 against Bournemouth.

Huddersfield are on a high and midweek saw them progress in the Cup. Huddersfield at 9/5 with Boylesport despite being away is great value and I also think the goals market is worthwhile backing where Over 3.5 goals can be backed at 5/2 with SkyBet.

Leyton Orient and Peterborough United have taken League One by storm at the start of season. Both taking a maximum of 12 points from 4 games and scoring 11 and 12 goals respectively. Peterborough also hit Championship side Reading for 6 in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Posh are a dangerous side and leading the attack they have £1.5m signing Britt Assombalonga who has scored in each of Peterborough’s four league games and he added one in midweek. He is Evens with Coral to make it 5 goals in 5 league games against a Crawley Town side that has shipped 9 goals in their opening four league games.

Also, Over 3.5 goals at 13/8 maybe worth considering in this game as Crawley have also scored 8 goals in those 4 games. The stats suggest it should be a goal fest. Peterborough have scored 6/12 of their goals before half time so Over 1.5 goals in the first half (13/8) also looks like a strong bet.

AFC Wimbledon have started the season fairly well, last week saw them come back from two goals down to beat promotion candidates Scunthorpe United 3-2, this weekend sees them play Fleetwood Town who have started the season brightly with 3 wins from 4 and scoring 8 goals and conceding 4 in the process.

I can see this being an open game and Over 2.5 goals priced at even money seems like a fair bet. David Ball has scored 3 times for Fleetwood this season and he is 12/5 with SkyBet to score anytime, he will be looking to add to his tally.

Elsewhere in League Two, Accrington Stanley find themselves rooted to the foot of the table after 4 games, leaking 10 goals so far. This weekend sees them face a strong Burton Albion side, who just missed out in the play-offs last season as they lost out to eventually promoted Bradford City.

Confidence will be high in the Burton camp as they have just come from midweek almost upsetting Fulham in the Cup. The Brewers held Premier League side Fulham to a 2-2 draw after extra time eventually going out 5-4 on penalties.

Burton are having a good campaign this year and to add to their near upset midweek, they’ll be looking to add their impressive start to the league which sees them unbeaten in all four games. They’re 13/10 generally to win at lowly Accrington and Burton are free scoring so expect to see a few goals too.

Recommended Bets:

  • Barnsley v Huddersfield – Over 3.5 goals – 5/2 Skybet
  • Peterborough v Crawley – Over 1.5 First Half Goals – 13/8 Coral
  • Peterborough v Crawley – Assombalonga to score anytime – Evens Coral
  • AFC Wimbledon v Fleetwood – David Ball to score anytime – 12/5 SkyBet.
  • Accrington v Burton – Burton Albion to win – 13/10 Generally

Barnsley Huddersfield was 2-1 after about 60 minutes, just needed that extra goal! Close.
Peterborough had a very bad day in the office, it’s very rare they fail to score in the game! Crawley did the hard bit by scoring in the first half, so you’d expect Peterborough to reply to land the over 1.5 first half goals.
Burton manage a 90th minute winner, 13/10 winner.
