Steve Bamford started the topic PGA Tour 14/15 New Winners in the forum Golf 9 years, 6 months ago
With Ben Martin and Robert Streb capturing their first PGA Tour victories in consecutive weeks now we are into the 2014/15 wrap-around season; it got me thinking about other winless players and who are the most likely players to win their maiden victories over the coming months. My thoughts are below and please add your views!
Carlos Ortiz – web.com 3-time winner last season meaning that Carlos is fully exempt this season. Handy for any rookie. The Mexican studied in Texas, so expect him to be a decent wind player and his wins in Panama and Mexico show that the 23 year old is one to watch on Bermuda greens and at the Mayakoba + Puerto Rico Open.
Justin Thomas – another web.com rookie who instantly caught my attention. From Louisville, Kentucky, Thomas played plenty of schoolboy golf on the AJGA, before moving to the University of Alabama. Indeed Thomas was part of the 2013 NCAA Division I Championship team. Brilliant amateur career and his south-eastern heritage will pay huge dividends at courses such as Sedgefield where he won the Footjoy Invitational in 2009. He won the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship on the web.com last season – a course where he finished 5th in his AJA days. You see the logic here!
Brendon De Jonge – from the youth on Tour to a Zimbabwean who is winless on Tour since his debut in 2007. De Jonge has shown at TPC Summerlin (2012) and Sea Island (2014) that he is becoming more comfortable when in contention. Pick him at a birdie fest such as PGA West, TPC Summerlin or Deere Run.
I will add to this list as I discover more names. Chris Stroud, Graham Delaet and Kevin Chappell can’t be far away in plenty of golf followers minds.
