Wales Open

Wales Open

  • This week’s Wales Open on the European Tour is staged at Celtic Manor for the 14th successive year. The course is a relatively new stadium design that was used for the Ryder Cup in 2010. At 7352 yards the course is about average in length my modern standards. There is a premium on accuracy over distance this week but players must also putt well to contend.

Gregory Bourdy has the most consistent course form of the entire field. He has also made his last three cuts and scores well for hitting the greens in the correct number of shots. Thomas Bjorn is another player who has built a solid bank of course form and putts well, an asset on a course that is featured by greens that are above average in size. On past form Ross Fisher has the ability to win at this level and figures highly in the key skill areas for this week’s challenge.

Fisher has enough in his record to suggest he can outscore Joost Luiten over 72 holes. Bernd Wiesberger was a shot away from a play-off last week and a continuation of that level of form can see him beat Thorbjorn Olesen in their match. Miguel Angel Jimenez can still be competitive at this level and can beat Francesco Molinari this week.

    Selections:

    Outright:

1 point each way Gregory Bourdy at 35/1 with BetVictor (Top 6).
1 point each way Thomas Bjorn at 33/1 with BetVictor (Top 6).
1 point each way Ross Fisher at 18/1 with BetVictor (Top 6).

    72 Hole Matchbets:

3 points Ross fisher to beat Joost Luiten at 9/10 with Bet365.
3 points Bern Wiesberger to beat Thorbjorn Olesen at 9/10 with Bet365.
3 points Miguel Angel Jimenez to beat Francesco Molinari at 9/10 with Bet365..

Great post Ian, thanks. I will give it a Tweet. Good luck with these picks, hopefully you can follow up last week’s 16/1 winner Adam Scott.

Hope you all backed Gregory Bourdy at 35/1 ..and we still have Kuchar and Mickelson in the US. Early days but its great to be getting some winners….

Great work Ian, that’s 2 decent winners in last fortnight, keep it up 🙂
